How is the program helping you in your current role?

The 杏吧原创 school counseling program truly prepared me to design and implement a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program. It gave me a strong foundation in best practices and the flexibility to apply them across diverse settings (I’ve worked in three different states and at every grade level from PK–12). Through the program, I gained a clear understanding of the school counselor’s role and the confidence to advocate for a model that aligns with that vision, ensuring I can effectively support students and promote systemic change in any educational environment.

How was it building community in your cohort?

I loved my cohort! Building community within my cohort was one of the most meaningful parts of the program. From day one, it felt like having an instant support system of people who truly understood the journey we were on. We not only learned and grew together through our courses but also built genuine friendships outside of class where we enjoyed playing intramural sports, going to Zag basketball games, and celebrating birthdays and life events together. Our cohort became like a family, and many of us still stay in touch personally and collaborate professionally. Those connections have become lifelong friendships and a lasting professional network.

How was your experience with the faculty?

My experience with the faculty was incredibly positive. They created an environment where I always felt welcomed, supported, and encouraged to ask questions inside and outside the classroom. What stood out most was how deeply they cared about us as humans, not just as students. The faculty maintained high expectations and challenged us to grow into strong, reflective counselors, while also being understanding and flexible when needed. It was the perfect balance of rigor and support.

How was the internship/practicum experience? How did it set you up for success in your career?

I was fortunate to complete my practicum and internship across multiple sites, which gave me a broad range of experiences with diverse students and school settings. The program partnered closely with each site to ensure I was gaining the skills and knowledge needed to be successful once I entered the field. Throughout the process, I gradually built confidence and independence. By the end of my internship, I was functioning much like a full-time school counselor. Those hands-on experiences prepared me well for the realities and unique challenges of the profession, and I felt truly ready to step into my role on day one.
