Entrepreneur Brynn MacLennan Shares Journey from Prototype to Market Success
Last night, visionary entrepreneur Brynn MacLennan, CEO of SLATE Dental, spoke to students and community members at the Jepson Center’s Wolff Auditorium about her journey transforming a passion for oral health into a thriving business.
Brynn shared the challenges and triumphs of product development, manufacturing, marketing, and brand building. Attendees learned how the SLATE Electric Flosser went from concept to market, including Brynn’s successful Kickstarter campaign in October 2021, which surpassed its funding goal on the very first day.
Since its launch, SLATE Dental has grown rapidly, reaching $4 million in sales in 2024, with plans to double that in 2025. Beyond financial success, Brynn emphasized her commitment to educating customers on oral health, showing that purpose-driven entrepreneurship can go hand in hand with business growth.
Her work has gained national recognition, with features in Men’s Health, Allure, Well + Good, BuzzFeed, Goop, and NPR’s How I Built This. In 2025, she was also recognized as one of the top 25 most influential business people in the Greater Spokane area.
The conversation was moderated by Dr. Christopher Stevens, Professor of Entrepreneurship, and offered attendees a firsthand look at what it takes to build a brand rooted in community, family, and impact.
